Description: Short biographies of more than 80 Wisconsin women. They range from pioneers such as Rosaline Willard Peck, who set up housekeeping in a cabin located on the shore of Lake Monona in 1837 to Olympian Beth Heiden. Some were educators, such as Clarissa Tracy of Ripon College, and Sister Joel Reed, president of Alverno College. Some were lawyers, like Kate Pier, who graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1887; others were legislators, such as XX. Frances Cline was a doctor; Edna Ferber, Zona Gale, and Marguerite Henry were authors. Georgia O'Keeffe was an artist, Roberta Boorse a ballerina, Ada Deer an activist for Native American rights. As Lee Sherman Dreyfus stated in his preface, "these women can be role models for men as well as women." Illustrated with black and white photographs and drawings.
