First published in 1940, this is the author's third novel.  Inspector Dan Pardoe of Scotland Yard and Sergeant Tommy Salt investigate the murder of Arch Mitford.  Several attempts had been made on Archy's life, by a person known to the young man.  Archy left a series of clues he was sure would lead police to his murderer, but Archy was too clever by half--the police didn't know what to make of them.
